Hedgehogs are beautiful and we should encourage them to come into our gardens. Although, you should check your garden before beginning any work that may harm them, such as cutting the grass.

Hedgehogs hibernate during the winter months in cold climates and during warmer months in warmer climates, know as aestivation. Hedgehog numbers are in decline and we should begin to make sure that we help them where possible.

Keep a look out for sick hedgehogs and seek help for them so that they can get better. If you see a hedgehog during daylight hours, it usually means that he/she is sick and in need of help, and you should contact your local wildlife rescue for advice.

The video below from the BBC will give some ideas to anyone who would like to encourage hedgehogs into their garden.
